I enjoy demonstrating and charge £90 for a session of up to three hours, £180 for a full day plus my travelling expenses at 50p/mile.
Please contact me if you are interested so that we can discuss your requirements.
The following clubs have booked me for demonstrations in the near future, and as the list grows I will add to it:
After a demonstration at the Tudor Rose club I got an email from a member of the audience saying:
“I and many others really enjoyed your demo at Tudor Rose a few weeks ago. Using your ideas and sizes, I have now made my first ball, see
attached picture.
The ball is Acacia, and the 32 spikes are Ash. I cut them with straight points rather than the curve as suggested by you so as to be able to get a more consistent result for my first attempt.
Also in the picture is a small tapered plug which I marked with an arrow head. The idea was simple, put the plug into the ball with the arrow pointing at the hole you are going to work on. It saves you needing to remember which hole, and you don't need to make sure the ball doesn't roll when you put it down. If you want the idea, you can have it for free.
Well thanks, Jon. I might take you up on that.
The secretary of the Sheffield Woodturning Club wrote:
“A quick note to say a very big thank-you for a cracking demonstration last night! As we said at the time it was one of the best we can remember, and we’d certainly like to invite you to come back again if you will.”
When I showed the Jorvik club how to make a Singapore ball, one of the members emailed me afterwards:
“I hadn't quite known what to expect from your demo - but thought it really excellent. A project like that is difficult to demonstrate and you included a lot of detail which was really interesting and completely different to the more conventional demo of bowl turning etc. Personally, I'd rate your demo as being as interesting and professional as the demo by Mark Baker at the previous meeting.”
also following the demo of a Singapore ball, the secretary of Trent Valley Woodturners wrote:
“…thank you for a very informative and interesting demonstration last night. It is always a good sign when you see…(members)…taking notes and photos of the demonstration. I am sure that we will see one or two Singapore balls…made by our members…and I am sure we will be asking you back in the near future.”
and I was more than delighted to receive the following comments after a demonstration for High Peak Woodturners:
“I would just like to express my thanks for a thoroughly informative, fascinating and entertaining evening last night. I was a visitor to the club for the first time last night and not quite sure what to expect, but the evening exceeded my expectations thanks to your presentation.”
After a full day demonstration at the invitation of Deeside Woodturners I received this email from a member of the audience:
“I was at your demo at Connah's Quay yesterday. I enjoyed the day enormously and write to thank you. You provided a good range of projects - some that would require us observers to stretch our skills, and some that should be well within our ability. All projects were delivered clearly and with many incidental hints & tips. Many thanks.”
Well, I look forward to going back to any of the clubs I’ve demonstrated at. They all made me feel welcome and if you are looking for a club to join, I'm sure they would all make you welcome too.
